Where rates come from
We pull mid-market USD-based reference rates from independent public providers and derive INR cross-rates from them. Every rate we store carries the provider name and the exact fetch timestamp, both of which are shown next to the numbers you see. Live provider health is visible on the exchange rates page.
Mid-market is not your dealer rate
Mid-market is the midpoint between buy and sell prices. No bank, card issuer or money changer gives you exactly this rate — the difference is the markup we quantify for you.
How estimates are calculated
Total cost combines the mid-market conversion, the card or method markup, GST on the markup, ATM and issuance/reload fees, cross-currency charges and typical balance-enquiry costs. Fee inputs come from our card catalogue, maintained from published issuer schedules.
Limitations
Issuers change fees without notice, dynamic-currency-conversion decisions happen at the terminal, and merchant surcharges vary. Treat every figure as an informed estimate, not a quote. If a rate is missing or stale we say so rather than substituting a placeholder value.
